What is E.164?
E.164 is the international standard for writing phone numbers: a plus sign, the country code, then the national number with no spaces, dashes or leading zero — for example +12135550142 or +442079460018. Most dialers and CRMs store numbers this way.
Common fixes it makes
- Removes brackets, spaces, dots and dashes.
- Drops the UK trunk 0 — including the common
+44 (0)mistake. - Turns
00into+, and adds +1 or +44 when the country code is missing.
It checks length and basic rules only. It cannot tell whether a number is actually in service.
